1902 After starting his career with the Southern Pacific Railroad expansion projects throughout western California, in 1908 Lloyd Bowman begins his civil engineering and land surveying practice in Santa Cruz.

1938 Tom Polk Williams, Jr. graduates from UC and is hired as a civil engineer by Arnold Baldwin, a private engineer and soon-to-be appointed County Surveyor for Santa Cruz County Department of Public Works.

1945 Lloyd Bowman and Tom Polk Williams, Jr. establish Bowman & Williams Civil Engineers and Land Surveyors.

2007 Bowman & Williams merges with Dunbar and Craig Land Surveying, bringing a larger depth of knowledge and records to every surveying project.

2019 Bowman & Williams expands ownership, adding two new partners and transitioning to a new mode of operation with expanded online capabilities.

Bowman & Williams offers civil engineering services to both homeowners and developers in the private and public sectors. We have in-house records and maps dating back to the early 1900’s and additionally have filed thousands of official documents to government agencies for public record. The diversity of the Santa Cruz County terrain, particularly in the mountain and coastal areas, natural landmarks can change dramatically over time and survey markers may wash away after severe weather conditions. We can provide construction administration services to private clients, and are able to assist with the construction management of large scale projects for government entities and District or Federal entity projects as well.
