Bowman & Williams (B&W) is a civil engineering and land surveying firm specializing in private development and public works consulting services for developers, educational institutions, and municipalities in the Santa Cruz County and Central California Coast areas since 1908. We are experiencing continuous growth, and are seeking experienced Civil Engineers and Land Surveyors for our Soquel, CA office.

Civil Engineer

Qualified candidates will have a California Engineer in Training Certificate, a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field, an interest in residential, commercial, and municipal site development design and related infrastructure; and demonstrated abilities to work well in a team environment, meet deadlines, and work under moderate supervision. Extensive experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office is required. Position is onsite at our office located in Soquel, CA.

Typical projects include feasibility studies; roadway and infrastructure design; analysis and design of grading, storm drainage, storm detention/retention, water systems, and sanitary sewer systems; erosion control plans; permit processing; constructability analysis; quantities and cost estimates; bid document preparation; and project coordination/administration.

Union Land Surveying Apprentice

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as a Union Land Surveying Apprentice. As an apprentice, you will work closely with experienced surveyors to learn the skills and techniques required for land surveying. This is a fantastic opportunity to start a career in the field of land surveying and join a reputable union.

Responsibilities:

Assist in conducting land surveys using various tools and equipment.
Learn how to interpret survey data and create accurate maps.
Perform calculations related to land measurements and boundaries.
Maintain and care for surveying equipment.
Collaborate with experienced surveyors on fieldwork and projects.
Follow safety protocols and guidelines at all times.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong mathematical skills.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Detail-oriented and excellent problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
Eagerness to learn and a strong work ethic.

Education Requirements (Local Union OE3):
The Local Union OE3 (Operating Engineers Local Union #3) sets specific education requirements for this position. To become a Union Land Surveying Apprentice, candidates must meet the following education requirements established by the Local Union OE3:
-High School Diploma or Equivalent: Applicants must have a high school diploma, or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Local Union OE3.
-OE3 Apprenticeship Program: Candidates must apply and be accepted into the OE3 Apprenticeship Program. This program typically includes a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-job training.
-Union Membership: Successful applicants will be required to become members of Local Union OE3.

Land Surveyor

Independently applies extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Uses advanced techniques in the modification or extension of theories and practices of sciences and disciplines to complete assignments. Works on a major project or several projects of moderate scope with complex features. Reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance. Develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products. Assists upper level management and staff as a technical specialist or advisor. Supervises all staff necessary to complete assignments. Reviews and approves scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments. Prepares proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for projects or programs. Receives supervision and guidance relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments. Possesses advanced oral and written communication skills. Represents the organization in communications and conferences pertaining to broad-aspects of assignments.
